What’s the mission context?
We are seeking a Product and innovation Chemist who is not just technically skilled but also committed to taking full ownership of their work. In this role, you will play a central part in driving the development of new products and improving existing formulations through innovation, experimentation, and a strong sense of accountability. You’ll thrive here if you take initiative, actively seek solutions, and have a passion for turning ideas into commercially viable products. The working location will be the R&D facility in the Mechelen office, Belgium. You will be reporting to the Technology Manager.
What are the key responsibilities?
- Lead formulation projects from R&D concept to pilot plant trials and commercialization, take responsibility for timelines, testing, documentation, and cross-functional coordination.
- Research and develop new product innovations, bring proactive ideas forward based on market literature, customer feedback, and technological advances.
- Identify performance gaps in current products and propose innovative improvements.
- Design and conduct laboratory experiments in collaboration with the R&D lab technicians, maintain accurate records and interpret data independently. Present your technical information and project updates with clarity to your stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, manufacturing, technical service, etc.) to ensure alignment and feasibility.
- Troubleshoot challenges in formulation and offer creative and practical solutions. Reduce the product carbon footprint through evaluating and reporting on circular development routes.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant safety standards, regulatory requirements, and quality protocols.
What are the requirements?
As Product & Innovation Chemist, you have following added values:- PhD Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Material Science or an experienced Master's in Chemistry (min 5 years experience).
- Experience in polymer processing and formulation
- Strong interest in innovation and application development
- Ownership mindset—takes responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with the different stakeholders
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-first attitude
- Curiosity and drive to continually learn and improve
- Languages: Fluent in English, oral & written. Dutch or German is not mandatory, but can be a plus
- Excel, PowerPoint and Word knowledge are a must
